Greenwood Pond

Greenwood Pond

(At the base of Borestone Mountain)

I guess I was expecting something more spectacular; could it be that my memory of Greenwood Pond   ( 50+ years ago) could be that distorted?? Or  quite probably it was the time of year when I revisited that made the difference.  I decided that the time of year was definitely the reason for the “letdown”

A wharf  extending into Greenwood Pond.

It is here that hikers begin the actual “work” of  climbing the mountain. That would not be me ’cause my main objective was to see the pond and climbing mountains of any size just does not appeal to me. Could it be that my fear of heights has something to do with this. Yup. I betcha it does lol. I use the word fear, but it’s more like a sick feeling in the gut when I look down from great hights. Well, I guess that’s what fear can do to ya.

Oh goodie! Bring a lunch and have a picnic right here!
You don’t need to lug all that stuff up the mountain; lighten you’re load and put some fuel in your belly so you can scamper  right up the mountain lol.
But don’t forget to pay, well, not today ’cause no one is here to take your money (well, maybe this is a good time of year to go up: it’s a freebie, folks!!
Holy smokes, they’ve even got a visitor’s center. No visiting today guys ’cause there ain’t no one there lol.
Food gone; pictures taken; now it’s time to “hike” back down the “trail”.
Mission accomplished!
and now
back to the starting “line”.
To the “city” guys or gals, walking in the woods or climbing a mountain is probably a big deal.  I see woods every day; I am surrounded by trees where I live. The magnitude of
Maine’s  natural beauty does increase  depending on where you drive or walk, though. So keeping that in mind, the “hike” up the “trail” to see the pond was well worth the effo
