Shirley, Maine wasn’t my intended destination, but of the countless times I have been to Greenville I have never taken the road off Route 15 that leads to Shirley …..until today! The view below is just outside of Monson en route to Shirley!
Spectacle Pond
OMG! I’m getting close!
The road to Shirley branches off Route 15 like an arm; let’s bare left to see what Shirley is all about.
There’s water up ahead!
Welcome to Shirley!
It’s true that to appreciate places, ya really have to be there: it’s not just the sights (pictures capture only a fraction of the beauty). You gotta be there to experience the way it really is. To know the “beauty” of “stillness” at this spot, you must be present in that stillness. It’s AWESOME!
You can picnic here (only 1 of these)
A bench overlooking Shirley Pond (that’s it; only 1)
The Shirley area is huge on RV sports!
The “town” just up the road a few steps.
Up the road (walking distance) Shirley Town Hall
They even have a fire department
(no picture available at this time), but I’ll tell you the fire marshal lives next door. If there’s a fire, I bet he could be at the fire station pronto!!
A church; always amazes me that no matter how small the community, there is a church.
And then, a town office and library!
Of course, the children must play!
That sign is a real eye catcher!
And of course, a place for those who once lived their lives in Shirley.
The best is yet to come! Shirley Maine is home to Dove Tail Bat Company which produces pro-level custom wood baseball bats!
Watch this video for a closer look at DTB (Dove Tail Bats)
So, when you head north on Route 15 toward Greenville, consider turning left off the main highway about 10 miles from Monson and SEE SHIRLEY! 😉
